Left 4 Dead 2 has now been made available in Linux in Steam. This is the game that was first reported to be coming to Linux with the Steam client. It has finally arrived and will not disappoint. Just yesterday Portal was released and now Left 4 Dead 2. I don't know if Valve is seeing any profit with all this effort, but I am sure glad they are making the effort and give them my full support. The latest reports show that Linux usage has peaked and has begun to decline. I am hoping that this is just due to the bulk of games being available being indie games that were mostly already available in Linux through other means. Hopefully the launch of major games like Portal and Left 4 Dead 2 will help bring those numbers back up and continue to rise to new heights. For personal laptops I've had a Gateway Solo 2500 with a 4GB hard drive and currently have a HP DV2 with a 500GB drive. For work I've had a Lenovo T42 and currently have a Lenovo x60s. I've had the x60s for 2 years now and the 60 GB hard drive is showing its age. The drive was very slow and you could hear it when it was seeking. It was time for an upgrade. A decided to get a 120GB OCZ Vertex Plus because it was being offered at a good price. After purchasing, I began to read up on the drive originally thinking it had a Sandforce Gen1 chip in it. After some further research I learned it had a Indilinx Martini chipset. I looked over some benchmarks for this chipset and the results looked promising and since the drive is going into an x60s which only has sata 1, the speeds were more than enough to fully utilize the connection. Over a month ago I purchased a Samsung 940BX. I had the 15.4 inch widescreen monitor but I just wanted something a little larger for my main computer. I did some searching around but I eventually settled down with the Samsung. It was highly regarded and seemed to be the best priced for the quality. I must say, I'm quite impressed. It has a height adjustment that that allows you with enough room to get it as high or low as you need it. The colors on the monitor are quite bright. I noticed a difference in quality the second I booted it up. The screen also auto-adjusts and I've never even had to manually adjust it. Way better than my old CRT monitor which I had to adjust every time I changed resolutions. There is no annoying notification either, it just handles it perfectly. As for games and movies, I haven't had any issues. It has great picture and response time. I haven't noticed any ghosting or issues with it not refreshing fast enough. I've had a Gravis controller for several years. It was a nice contoller with two analog sticks and buttons galore but it had one major problem. Its drivers were horrible. I would install the drivers and the contoller would work for a while, but eventually it starts acting up. I'll plug it in but it wouldn't work until I would reboot the computer. Just recently I bought the new game Marvel Alliance. When I tried to start the game with my Gravis, the game just crashes. To start the game I had to make sure the contoller was not plugged in so I could at least play using the keyboard. This was very hard though. I couldn't easily do a lot of the needed combos.
